About Us

How we Publish

How to Contribute

The Sydney Literature and Cinema Network’s open-access, peer-reviewed journal Caméra-Stylo: Intersections in Literature, Cinema, and other Visual Cultures publishes one annual volume in print and online. The journal publishes original and unpublished works.

We commit to being an open access publication that shares high-quality research and scholarship to build a stronger public humanities. We do not charge any submission or publication fees, and readers may access and download the journal freely. Journal publications are immediately available in perpetuity from the date of publication.

Publishing Schedule

The journal is open to general submissions at any time to be published as part of a themed volume or individually. Publications may also be published individually online first and then later collected into a volume. Each volume also has a themed essay cluster, for which we have specific calls-for-papers announcements. Link.

In order to produce a print version and to be indexed in databases such as JSTOR, the journal is published in collaboration with the University of Sydney Press. More information about the press can be found here. Due to the journal’s hybrid medium, there is some discrepancy between the online and print volumes. For example, video essays published online as part of a volume have been replaced with a companion piece in the print version, such as an interview or transcript. The journal also collects material previously published on this website, such as reviews.

Authentic Tradition

All Camera-Stylo publications must conform with the Chicago Manual of Style for citations.

Our Philosophy

Editorial and Publication Process

Submission received – submit through our general inbox or in response to a specific call-for-papers. You will be notified that submission has been received and is undergoing the criteria check.

The Criteria Check evaluates the work’s scope and word count to ensure it is a good fit for our platform. It will then be checked for plagiarism and similarity – quotes should be approximately less than 20% of the piece.

Peer-Review/Editorial Review – If your publication is a journal article, it will be sent out for peer-review. If you are pitching an essay, review, or multimedia work, a member of the editorial team will contact and work with you towards publication. You will be sent peer-reviewers’ reports or editorial suggestions prior to acceptance.
