Graphic Designer

Description

Location: Remote

Commitment: Approx. 4–6 hours per month

Platform: Joomla with YooTheme

About Us

Camera-Stylo is the digital journal of the Sydney Literature and Cinema Network, showcasing peer-reviewed articles, blogs, essays, reviews, and podcasts exploring the intersections between literature, film, and visual culture. The site supports a global community of scholars, artists, and thinkers.

The Role

We are seeking a Web Graphic Designer to help bring our content to life. In this volunteer role, you’ll create visual assets and layout templates for our various publication types (e.g. academic articles, blog posts, conference materials, and special features). Your work will enhance the site’s visual identity and ensure consistency across pages and platforms.

You’ll work closely with the editorial and technical teams, contributing to the design and user experience of a dynamic, culturally rich platform.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Design visuals and layouts for Camera-Stylo web content using YooTheme within Joomla.

  • Create custom graphics, featured images, banners, and visual templates for different content types.

  • Help maintain a consistent visual identity aligned with the journal’s aesthetic.

  • Assist with occasional conference/event graphics (digital or print).

  • Ensure responsive design compatibility across devices.

What We’re Looking For

  • A strong design portfolio (web, editorial, or digital content).

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (especially Illustrator and Photoshop) or similar tools.

  • Familiarity with CMS platforms (experience with Joomla and YooTheme is a bonus).

  • A keen eye for layout, typography, and colour.

  • Interest in literature, cinema, or the arts is highly desirable.

Section Editor - Blog

Camera-Stylo is an online journal and collaborative space for the Sydney Literature and Cinema Network. We explore the rich intersections between literature, cinema, and visual culture, publishing peer-reviewed articles, reviews, essays, blogs, and podcasts. The website supports a growing international academic and artistic community.

The Role

We are looking for a Section Editor – Blogs to help shape and grow the blog section of our website. This is a volunteer role for someone with a passion for literature, cinema, and digital publishing. You will work with contributors from across the network, lightly edit their blog posts, and publish them via our Joomla + YooTheme platform.

You’ll be supported by our editorial team and provided with simple training on our website backend if needed.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Curate, edit, and publish blog posts related to literature, cinema, and media arts.

  • Liaise with contributors to support blog submissions and ensure clarity, tone, and style.

  • Use the Joomla CMS with YooTheme builder to format and schedule posts.

  • Ensure blog content aligns with the values and goals of Camera-Stylo.

  • Collaborate with the editorial team and suggest new ideas for engagement and outreach.

What We’re Looking For

  • A strong interest in literature, film, and the arts.

  • Excellent written English and editing skills.

  • Confidence using web-based publishing platforms (experience with Joomla or YooTheme is a bonus, but not essential – we can train you).

  • A collaborative and dependable approach.

  • Experience with blogging or editorial work is highly regarded but not required.
